Wigan A and E creaking??

Started by: fedup (232)

Sadly I have been to A and E a few times recently but the last visit prompted this query!
Having spent almost 12 hours from 9am on Friday morn last with a Urology problem I was advised I needed to go to Royal Bolton Hospital for further advice, as there was no one available from that Dept at Wigan. I was taken by ambulance which luckily had just brought someone to Wigan but was returning to Bolton. On discharge the following day I enquired about getting back to Wigan-no answers!! A return trip could not be guaranteed to be arranged within a suitable timescale!! Had to make my own arrangements-luckily family on hand with transport- but what about others with no transport. It could be a nightmare!
It seems that Wigan and Bolton share facilities for Urology ( and someone mentioned Cardiology also) on a week on and then a week off basis. So a Kidney or Heart patient in Wigan has to go to Bolton one week and then a patient from Bolton needs to come to Wigan the following week! What a shambles!! Presumably there are not enough staff at either hospital on a regular basis?? Wigan A and E was crammed with not even enough chairs and several patients on trolleys in the corridors nearby who had been there ages! All staff trying hard under difficult circumstances!! Can nothing be done???

Fed up..I've just had to cancel an appointment at the Urology department at Leigh Infirmary due to the snow...I didn't know there was one at Wigan Infirmary...I did google it but couldn't find any mention of there being one there.

Sorry but if you had family available to give you a lift you shouldn't have even bothered the ambulance service . They're not taxis and have enough on their plate with emergencies .

Maybe the junior doctor should be given the pay rise they have asked for. Just a thought.

Fedup Wigan A&E is broken.Way back in August of last year my wife was admitted through A&E and then it looked like a war zone people leaning on walls sat on the floor ans sat outside waiting to be seen to .She spent nearly 30hrs on a trolley before she got a bed.A week last Friday she was rushed into A&E again about 4-00pm got through triage about 9-00pm to be put on a trolley in a corridor till 6-00pm on Sunday when they found a bed for her On that Friday average waiting time for A&E was 12hours and 60hrs to get a bed Thankfully she is back at home now not fully recovered but comfy

The urology department is based at Leigh. The Greater Manchester heart centre at Wythenshawe is a centre of excellence catering for patients across the region.
Bolton hospital offers a specific cardiac service which covers patients from Bolton,Wigan and Salford.

Momac and Gaffer-I am aware there is a Urology Dept at Leigh (not at Wigan) who look after me excellently, but on the night there were presumably no medics available at Wigan with Urology experience!
MrsC - I did not bother the ambulance service unnecessarily, my trip to Bolton was arranged by the hospital as an ambulance was conveniently available, and so I merely asked how I was to return to Wigan the day afterwards. I managed but other patients may struggle to get home from Bolton!

Perhaps the overcrowding in our Hospitals and Health Centres, Surgeries etc along with many other things in our everyday life has something to do with the ever increasing population as a result of the open door immigration policy of recent years under both Tory and Labour Governments.

Any election will only continue to move the problem from one government to another unless drastic action is taken by draconian means to limit the number of people entering the country, especially those entering illegally.

if the NHS was a person The life support would be turned off....
the Sad thing about it is the same people who have political bias will be telling the rest of us in a few years about the good old days when they went to the NHS and how it was free....

immigration has NOTHING TO DO WITH IT & maybe you,d be better served in looking at the massive underfunding by the tory government who has no care for the public in it,s relentless drive to privitise the NHS . they have no qualms in giving multi millions to their hanger ons & blowing billions on failed projects like HS2 . get real todger .

HS2 was a Labour project led by Lord Adonis.
Can I expect to see hedges planted around the hospitals when they’re privitised?

Gaffer.
It was a Labour project initially.
You forgot to mention that in 2010 it was the Tory / Lib Dem coalition government that took on the responsibility to oversee it. The blame lies solely at the feet of this Tory government for the shambles it turned out to be.
It took this Tory government more than 10 years to finally come clean and admit that the HS2 would be abandoned.

back in the EU then get rid of the torys, address all the damage they,ve done . get the money back off their hanger ons like baroness mony ,scrap the non doms law , pass a law that stops people & companies sending their money out of the country & get a fair tax from them.then fix the NHS & get rid of all the private companies in it . put money into the dentists so we can have a tooth pulled . then address these shyster utility companies & bring at least 1 utility company back under national rule so we wont keep getting ripped off . hows that for a start 1stroke .

The Tory's have a problem with the 25000+ that come on boats but they invited 700000 foreign workers into the country!!!! With the knowledge that the UK do's not have the services in place for houses or heath care for the resident population in its present condition......

What is happening is that when someone comes to this country to work, they can bring their families with them, that was called emigrating, by all means send your family money if you are working over here, but don't bring them with you.

Whupsy

If you tax the crap out of foreign companies, they will leave the UK and take their business elsewhere in the world and the UK will get no tax at all from them, and no jobs, no VAT and umpteen other taxes linked to that foreign company.

But UK governments give non UK businesses tax breaks and subs not available to UK businesses, not then surprising when the latter fail as our own government forced them to compete on an uneven playing field.

if a business doe's not want to pay the tax in the UK!! then close the UK market to them someone else will come along.... You really believe if amazon close someone else will not come along..... these statements you hear like if you tax foreign companies or if rich people pay more tax they will leave plus trickle down economics it's all just bolack@@

We have foreign workers here !! we have Indian in heath care chinese in the construction industry thai in agriculture they get a 5 years visa and they can't bring family members.... but the problem we have is they live in working class/poor areas and the local Israelis go crazy.... how will that go down in places like wigan??? Even and at the moment Israel is over in indian hiring 50000 more workers because of the war.... I don't know why the UK do not learn from other country's what works or not....

IT's like the Rwanda plan it was tried here and it did not work and it was shelfed ...

It is said that he laughs at Sunak floundering because of taking it seriously.

TTS - you asked what is the answer to improve NHS? They need a shake up from the top perhaps getting rid of non-jobs eg Diversity and Inclusion Management thereby saving a good amount of money for more important positions eg Front line staff!
Perhaps we should start by not voting in the same useless politicians of either the Labour or Tory parties! The choice between " Hanging or the Electric chair". The Reform Party may not be perfect but they have to start somewhere and I suspect and hope that they will gain many supporters. If Labour win the next election and make the usual cock up and leave the country even worse off then even more other parties may emerge?? ( If there are not serious protests and violence before then!!)

peter israel no-one is asking to "tax the hell" out of these companies just a fair tax . they are sending their money out of the country & paying either no tax or very little . netflix did this around 3 yrs ago & then got the same money back as a "loan" from the shell company it set-up in amsterdam then claim tax relief on that loan which comes out of our money from the treasury . is it fair to let them do this & the common man or woman pays 20% basic tax ? .
